Gbolabo Onasanya

Gbolabo Onasanya is an educational leader with more than 23 years of experience in school administration, curriculum implementation, student development, safeguarding, and youth programme design.

He has been active in educational leadership since 2003 and currently serves as Principal of Topfield College, where his responsibilities have included institutional operations, curriculum implementation, teaching staff oversight, academic standards, and the development of systems that support student conduct and wellbeing.

His work extends beyond conventional school administration. Gbolabo has developed and implemented programmes that connect secondary-school education with professional and extracurricular opportunities for young people.

One example is the integration of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria Accounting Technicians Scheme into the SS3 curriculum, creating an early pathway for students to begin professional accounting qualifications while still in secondary school.

He has also played a major role in the development of youth sports programmes through Topfield College and Ravens Basketball Academy. Under this programme, the school's female basketball team won the 2023 Milo National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship and finished as national runners-up in 2024.

His experience also includes coordinating student participation in strategic youth competitions and mind-game programmes, including national-level events such as the U-16 Bestman Games Monopoly Championship.

Across these activities, Gbolabo's work reflects a broader interest in how schools can create learning environments that combine academic development, professional exposure, discipline, teamwork, competition, and personal growth.

At SILT, he contributes the perspective of an experienced school operator. His role is to help test whether proposed research methods, learning technologies, and AI-supported interventions can function responsibly within the realities of African classrooms, including teacher workload, school routines, safeguarding obligations, student behaviour, and data privacy.

At SILT, Gbolabo helps connect research and technology design to the realities of school implementation. He advises on classroom feasibility, educator workflows, student safeguarding, duty-of-care expectations, adolescent data privacy, and the practical conditions required for responsible research with young learners. His contribution helps ensure that SILT's work remains grounded in what schools can realistically adopt and sustain.
